Wilkes Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has a track record of working closely with businesses and the community to find unique solutions to economic challenges. The Action Plan for Economic Development calls for the EDC to step up its leadership role to guide the community to make strategic investments that will support long-term, sustainable growth. The time was opportune for Wilkes County to raise the level of its economic development program. The action planning process included a SWOT Analysis, benchmark analysis, economic trends research, business and investor surveys, and best practices. Overall, the Wilkes EDC Action Plan strengthens the existing program of work, addresses critical workforce needs, and builds a stronger and sustainable economic development organization. The EDC is in the first year of implementation.
