In 2021, Blue Ridge Community College and the Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development gathered approximately 60 advanced manufacturing companies along with partners in childcare, workforce development, and regional planning to crowd source solutions to the labor shortage. The group brainstormed ideas in childcare, veteran employment, former offender employment, diverse workforce, college-friendly policies, housing, and transportation. After brainstorming, the group voted on their top three ideas to work on in task forces that will be established by the Partnership and College. The top two ideas voted on for immediate action were developing an inclusive hiring partners group and an employer-driven nonprofit housing development. Creative EDC helped organize the summit, gave the keynote address, and assisted with facilitation.
