ElectriCites engaged Creative EDC to develop and implement a shovel-ready site qualification program. Smart Sites qualifies a site as ready for development through a series of due diligence steps and community analysis. The program includes a Phase 1, geotechnical, wetlands identification, endangered species, and cultural resources studies. The first cities to have sites certified in the Smart Sites program were Tarboro, Statesville, and Wilson. Since its inception in 2014, some 20 sites have been certified across the state from Drexel to Elizabeth City. The program has resulted in more prospects considering sites in ElectriCities’ territory.
